New Fremantle traffic bridge design draws ire from community
The Town of East Fremantle is calling on Main Roads to come up with a better design for the Fremantle Traffic Bridge replacement.
Councillor Cliff Collinson told Oliver Peterson the community want better consultation.
“I think they want to have announcements as quickly as possible to say they’re doing good things and spending money wisely for COVID.
“Where as we’d rather have a pause and have proper consultation and just come up with a better design.”
Mr Collinson said the new bridge should be pointing towards Fremantle and have better access for bicycles and pedestrians.
The fact the current bridge is on the State Heritage list is also problematic for the new design as it involves demolition.
“What are state heritage lists for if you’re not going to honour them?
“There could be lots of possibilities to retain that bridge.”
