People with Type 2 diabetes could soon replace their current medical treatment with insulin patches.

Diabetes expert Professor Paul Zimmet from Monash University joined 6PR Mornings to discuss an exciting prospect for people living with diabetes, particularly those with type 2 diabetes.

Exciting new revelations on what causes diabetes have surfaced in recent years, meaning better treatment for its sufferers is being investigated.

“Obesity is associated with Type 2 diabetes, and we have always been told it’s due to an insulin resistance without actually understanding what the mechanism is so that one can actually target it with a drug,” he said.

“Diabetes is a huge problem, and this new treatment would make a very big difference if we could get a better management for people with diabetes, particularly those with Type 2 diabetes”.
