Not for publicity: Two teenage Woodside protesters lawyer up after Roger Cook’s comments
Two teenage protesters have gotten a lawyer, claiming they were defamed by Premier Roger Cook at a press conference after protesting at Woodside’s annual general meeting days prior.
Both CEO Meg O’Neill and Chairman Richard Goyder’s children were named during the protest. One of the teenagers stating “Meg O’Niell is killing kids.”
In response Cook noted it was a “despicable act,” calling for the police to look into the matter.
Burgess Criminal Lawyer Michael Douglas, representing the teenagers, told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live this is absolutely a case for defamation and not just for publicity.
“His response to the question was just unreasonable, I’m a pretty big fan of Roger Cook most days…this just overstepped the mark and i think a reasonable thing to do and the kind thing to do given they are children, would just be to say sorry,” Mr Douglas said.
