Numbers show Government’s drug plan has done almost nothing, opposition argues
Almost a year following the State Government’s much-publicised announcement of hard border search areas in their effort to curb drug importation, the numbers are out, and they do almost nothing to back the plan.
According to numbers tabled in the Legislative Council by the State Opposition yesterday, a total of five grams of cannabis had been seized form a vehicle in Albany Port since 27 June 2023 under the operation.
Opposition Justice spokesperson Tjorn Sibma told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings the Liberals had originally supported the Government’s plan under the assumption it would be effective.
“You have to deal with these things in good faith; what struck me as odd, though, is that there was radio silence from the Government once the laws had been in effect for some time,” Mr Sibma said.
