LONG WAY TO THE TOP : Katherine

DAY 11: After a successful negotiation crossing the Northern Territory border – and avoiding the saltwater crocodiles at Timber Creek for his first live broadcast of Millsy at Midday in the top end – Steve Mills landed in Katherine, known as a place where “the outback meets the tropics”.

Millsy is in the NT for a series of live broadcasts as part of his Long Way to the Top tour, a radio road trip like no other, cruising our North West and the territory towing his luxurious Jayco Outback Journey with partner Tricia by his side.

Thursday saw him broadcasting live from the Top Didj Gallery in Katherine, where he first caught up with gallery general manager Petrena Ariston, and traditional owner and local artist Manuel Pamkal.

Next on air were Annabelle and Tom Curtain, who run Katherine Outback Experience, which celebrates the NT’s unique pastoral history and culture through real horse-starting and working dog demonstrations, as well as some live music.

Tom is a stockman and Golden Guitar winning musician and very passionate about giving visitors to Katherine the best experience.

Millsy also stopped by Marksie’s Stockman’s Camp Tucker, where he stepped back in time for a traditional Stockman’s Camp Oven meal.

Marksie told Millsy he will be retiring at the end of 2022, so the business is for sale.

Admirably aided by his lovely partner Tricia capturing the action behind the scenes, Millsy is on a radio road trip adventure, broadcasting live from some the state’s most remote and renowned towns and destinations.

Millsy is on air daily from 12pm to 3pm, capturing the qualities of each town and the people that make them tick, with his journey detailed in his Long Way to the Top tour blog, which we’ll update after each broadcast.
