The State Government will commission an independent review of the future of The Perth Mint.

The findings will be considered after the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) investigates possible financial crimes at the mint.

The investigation is supposedly independent from the gold doping scandal earlier this year.

Opposition leader Shane Love told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the investigation will give no real analysis.

“This seems to be yet another attempt to fob off the real responsibility he has to ensure the Perth Mint is run properly and to ensure that there is a proper analysis of what’s gone wrong,” said Mr Love.

“He’s trying to hide his responsibilities… and avoid the due investigation that should take place into the management of the state government of this very important institution.”

However, Oliver Peterson said the people of Western Australia “deserve better”.
