Oxfam has released a new 92-page “Inclusivity Language Guide” on how staff should speak.

The guide apologises to employees for writing the document in English, which Oxfam says is the “language of a colonising language.”

Words such as “headquarters” were described as colonial which could make certain groups uncomfortable.

The organisation also advised employees to avoid using the word “people” which could offend as the term is seen as patriarchal and linked to the male hierarchy.

Staff have also been advised to refrain from using gender-specific terms such as “feminine hygiene”, “mother” and “father”.

Perth Live host Oliver Peterson said the guide is a “cancel culture guide.”
