Pay to play: Cottesloe council could slap homeowners with a verge fee for play equipment
Cottesloe residents could soon be hit with a $300 fee to put children’s play equipment on their front verges if council votes in favour of the recommendation on Tuesday night.
The town’s Taskforce on Residential and Recreational Verge Uses met in June and suggested ratepayers who wanted to install play equipment should pay $300 to apply for a permit to do so, and then pay $100 annually.
6PR Perth Live host Oliver Peterson spoke with Katy Mason from The Cottesloe Collective and a local resident, to discuss how the community has responded to these potential charges.
“I think what we all want to see is children playing outside. And with the cost of living going up and increasing expenses everywhere, I think it’s really alarming that a council could possibly slap a family with $400 in the next 12 months,” she said.
“I just don’t think it’s very family friendly.”
