Penguin Island centre scrapped despite $250,000 feasibility spend
Penguin Island Discovery Centre will close next month, despite $46,000 being spent on a feasibility study for a renewed service for the island.
Perth Wildlife Encounters CEO Chad D’Souza told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings there had been considerable investment and planning from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions put into reinvigorating the centre.
“All we’re asking for is that money that was committed; the $3.3 million by the government to repair that building and keep it in transaction until the new one could be built, and that a seamless transaction over to the mainland will happen,” Mr D’Souza said.
“And now DBCA have got that money, and they say the money has been dispersed. It’s gone.”
