One of Perth’s most elite girl’s schools has come under intense scrutiny after reportedly dismissing a student’s medical condition as “growing pains.”

St Mary’s Anglican Girl’s School has been accused of discriminating against a Year 5 pupil who has joint hypermobility syndrome via the Equal Opportunities Commission.

The student’s mother Melita Markey told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings the syndrome makes life “very difficult” for sufferers, who require adjustments to daily life.

“It’s very straightforward, but there was a very old-fashioned paradigm that it was just growing pains,” Ms Markey said.
