Federal member for Curtin Kate Cheney has called on both State and Federal Governments to take opn urgent, tangible reforms to tackle violence against women in the face Friday’s horrific murder-suicide in Floreat.

It comes as gun rights activists allegedly plan to protest Police Commissioner Paul Papalia’s proposed gun law reforms this Friday.

Ms Cheney told Sean Cowan on 6PR Mornings  she doesn’t understand why a Mosman Park resident would need more guns than most rural farmers.

“I think people are horrified to know that there are so many guns in our midst, and I can’t see any justification for having 13 guns in Mosman Park,” Ms Cheney said.

Consent Educator Daniel Principe told Sean Cowan the most effective tool that can be used to tackle domestic violence – youth education – still needs to be further developed in the home.

“We need to equip parents to have conversations amongst themselves about consent, relationships and how they can equip their young people to find out what’s working for them,” Mr Principe said.
