With rugby league passion fully on show ahead of this weekend’s NRL exhibition at Optus Stadium, the drive to establish a WA club has reached a fever pitch once again.

The CEO of the newest team on the NRL’s roster in the Dolphins, Terry Reader told Karl and Gena on 6PR Breakfast building a new NRL team is a challenge, but is fueled by passion from staff, players and supporters.

“We want to be a national competition; Perth’s got to be the next town to be involved,” Mr Reader said.

6PR’s own Perth Live  presenter Oliver Peterson is one of many Perth residents who are championing the passion for the NRL in WA, and stepped on to the peach to prove it.

“I just ran 60 metres untouched in the middle of the hallowed turf of Optus Stadium,” Peterson said with maybe more than a little tongue in his cheek.

“People think the double-header this weekend is the big deal; gents, it’s actually the Friends of Rugby League touch football match.”
