A pioneer in a now much-loved position in Australian television hierarchy, Alan Wilkie has passed at the age of 94.

The country’s first TV weatherman began his career on the ABC in 1956 before establishing the role at various other companies.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford told Millsy and Mick on 6PR Breakfast it would have been fascinating for him to see how the industry has changed over the years.

“He talked about literally going out in his car to the top of the hill and checking cloud movements; I think those days have gone,” Mr Ford said.
