Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Thursday morning Australia reserved the right to take further action against Russia but its response was “one step at a time” and it would continue to work “lock step with the United States and the United Kingdom”.

Mr Morrison spoke with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Wednesday night and reaffirmed Australia’s “unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and denounced Russia’s aggressive behaviour towards Ukraine as unacceptable, unprovoked and unwarranted”.

Ukraine announced a state of emergency overnight amid reports Russian forces are making their final moves towards invasion.

Channel 9 European correspondent Carrie-Anne Greenbank told 6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker this morning there was uneasiness in Ukraine, with significant developments in anticipation of armed conflict.
