AMA WA President says Victoria “as dangerous” as any other country

Dr Andrew Miller is warning of future COVID-19 outbreaks in WA.

The state President of the Australian Medical Association believes it’s vital to review all restrictions ahead of the proposed Phase 5 on July 18.

Dr Miller says it’d be a mistake to think WA can avoid another outbreak while continuing to ease restrictions.

“I’m saying let’s be realistic about what we’re capable of.

“What’s happening now in phase 4 is fantastic. We might have to give that up like Melbourne is going to have to.”

He also believes interstate travellers should now be viewed in the same way as overseas travellers. 140 people have been diagnosed with the COVID-19 in Australia over the past 24 hours, 127 of those are in Victoria.

“We can’t ignore the fact that our hard border actually has a lot of people arriving,” said Dr Miller.

“A lot of them coming from the east coast, which is now just as dangerous as any other country from the look of it in Melbourne.

“We just need to pump the breaks a bit, and we’re in a pretty good phase so let’s not blow it all now.”
