Battle brewing over battery cage eggs

The State Government is putting pressure on the WA egg industry to improve animal welfare conditions, and ensure hens are given more space to move on factory farms.

State Agriculture Minister Alannah MacTiernan told Mornings with Gareth Parker, some of the industry’s practices are outdated.

Egg Farmers Australia chief executive John Dunn then told Mornings, the industry is happy to adapt, but the minister has done little to work with it.

Senior Policy officer at the RSPCA, Jed Goodfellow then told Mornings, they have ongoing concerns about how chickens are being treated.
