Baz on the Closing Ceremony
The Commonwealth Games finished up on Sunday night but not without a fair amount of criticism, empty seats, long speeches and “wreaking a tradition” of not having the athletes enter the stadium to fan fair.
Our very own Basil Zempilas was part of the Channel 7 broadcasting team to bring the ceremony into our loungerooms and even he said the organisers “got it wrong”.
We did give Baz the day off to recover today but we felt he needed to explain to us what exactly happened last night.
The organisers of the closing ceremony decided to break with tradition and arranged for the athletes to enter the stadium before the start of the ceremony. #GC2018 pic.twitter.com/5DQFSGBTaB

“Inexplicably, they just got it wrong last night. They didn’t include the athletes in the presentation, they didn’t include them in the broadcast, they weren’t acknowledged, the speeches went way, way, way too long,” Baz told us.
