CCI WA welcomes BHP’s push to prioritise WA residents but warns against ‘WA only’ policy across industries

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA has welcomed BHP’s commitment to preference West Australians for new job opportunities but warned not every business is in the position to fill skill shortages with West Australians.

The mining giant would require eastern states-based applicants to move to WA permanently if hired.

The State Government has been calling on the resources sector to bring its workers here since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

CCIWA Chief Executive Chris Rodwell told Gareth Parker on Mornings while it’s good news for WA’s economy, businesses should be able to make these kinds of hiring decisions individually.
