Commissioner confident emergency powers will be quashed after coronavirus
The Police Commissioner maintains emergency powers granted to his officers will be repealed, once the coronavirus crisis has passed.
A state of emergency – declared last month – has today again been extended for another 14 days, giving police the power to arrested and charge those refusing to self-isolate, gathering in large groups, or crossing regional boundaries.
Chris Dawson told Gareth Parker on Mornings things will need to go back to normal once the health emergency is over, because WA can’t be allowed to become a police state.
