Concerns over 400m rule for boaties

A marine studies teacher has expressed concern about a so-called 400 metre rule as part of the State Government’s review of boating safety rules.

A recent discussion paper has put forward 12 proposals – including allowing vessels to carry no mandated safety equipment within 400 metres of shore.

However experienced skipper and marine teacher Wayne Baddock says WA has some treacherous coast – even close to shore.
