COVID Update: One new case & WA’s state of emergency extended
WA’s state of emergency has been extended until May 28 which keeps a number of coronavirus measures in place, like extra power for police.
The situation is reviewed, with the potential for the state of emergency to be extended every two weeks.
Police Commissioner Chris Dawson told Gareth Parker on Mornings that’s likely to continue for several months, so they can maintain a hard border closure.
Meanwhile, police will form part of the authorities checking if hospitality businesses are doing the right thing from Monday.
That’s when restaurants, pubs, and cafes can again serve limited numbers of dine-in customers.
Commissioner Dawson says they won’t be handing out infringements “willy-nilly.”
