Dignity for injured cops

Police officers who can no longer serve due to injury or illness will be able to be retired with dignity, under new legislation introduced into State Parliament today.

Currently Commissioner of Police can retire an injured or ill police officer through the ‘loss of confidence’ removal provisions. This was just an extra indignity.

Police Minister Michelle Roberts spoke to Oliver Peterson about what the changes to the Police Act mean.
