Education Minister urges school to reconsider cupcake ban

An Ellenbrook Primary School will be asked to reconsider its policy after it moved to ban birthday cakes for students partly due to cultural reasons.

The principal of Arbor Grove primary says students will be asked to stop bringing in cakes and other treats for their birthdays – in a bid to take into account other students allergies – intolerances and cultural diversity.

Education Minister Sue Ellery has stepped in – with the Department to ask the school to reconsider.

She’s told Gareth Parker on Mornings – any such policy should be developed in consultation with the school community.
