Fire truck siren makeover?

Drivers could be alerted by a new sound on the roads with the Fire and Emergency Services looking at some different sounds and techniques for fire truck sirens.

Some parts of Queensland are trialing a new sound system on their trucks, while Sydney and Singapore are using new siren sounds.
WA’s Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner, Darren Klemm, says WA is still deciding if we should make a change to our truck sirens here, but the most important thing is drivers know what to do.

“I think everyone could be better at it, just indicate and move to the left; it’s pretty simple stuff.
“They have to be able to hear it and that’s the point,” Commissioner Klemm told 6PR Breakfast.
