Forensic psychologists develop app to improve witness reliability

On Perth Tonight Chris spoke to the developer of an app designed to fill critical gaps in the legal system.

The iWitnessed program can be relied on in the same way as contemporaneous notes – to refresh and strengthen the reliability of witness evidence being given in court.

The University of Sydney’s Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychology, Helen Paterson told Chris she was involved in co-creating the app because she “knows how to come up with questions that will elicit accurate and complete memories from people”.

“Memories decay more rapidly than you would think…and are best straight after the incident…although unfortunately police often don’t have time to interview witnesses until days later,” Ms Paterson said.
