Police are on the hunt for a husband wife who fled Australia after their alleged involvement in a sophisticated corruption scandal which has engulfed Fremantle Ports.

Police say Jack Merolla and his wife Daniela have fled the country, after siphoning more than $1 million  through shell companies.

It’s believed Mr Merolla used the fake businesses to procure goods and services with legitimate businesses directing cash to his own benefit.

6PR Reporter Jake Battrick told Gareth Parker it’s believed Mr Merolla used the fake businesses to procure goods and services with legitimate businesses directing cash to his own benefit.

The Merolla’s children – Paolo Merolla, 23, and Tiziana Merolla, 28, have been arrested and charged with property laundering.

They faced court on Tuesday and had their matters remanded of until August 11. They are both on bail. They have not yet entered pleas to their respective charges.

WA Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr and Mrs Merolla who are believed to be in South Africa.
