Government crackdown on tow truck cowboys

The State Government is moving to install a minimum standard within the tow truck industry – through new regulations.

From late next year – tow truck operators will be required to provide maximum storage and towing fees to motorists – before taking their vehicle.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti says it’s about offering more protections to those in a vulnerable position.

“Your car’s broken down, you’ve been in an accident you just basically want to get off the side of the road, you’re in a vulnerable situation and the feedback I’ve received is that we’ve seen some really incredible fees,” she told Gareth Parker.

“This will require maximum storage and towing fee so you can at least be aware of what you’re potentially up for.”
