Healthy teen turned amputee inspiring others

Mike Rolls was a healthy teenager doing a bit of travelling and then he was suddenly struck down with a disease he had never heard of before and given a 5 per cent chance of survival.

Mike was in an induced coma for over a month after contracting meningococcal septicaemia. His long recovery caused many side effects so he decided to get his legs amutated.

“It isn’t until we’re faced with those challenges that we really find out what we’re made of. We work out how to get out of a situation that we find ourselves in and we get very creative about that with the right mindset. And it’s about those small steps, those bitesize pieces going from one thing to the next,” he told 6PR Breakfast.
