International travel restrictions delay Kwinana Smart Freeway rollout
The commission of the Smart Freeway project on the Kwinana Freeway will be delayed as the UK-based expert whose work is required to complete the project cannot travel to Australia because of COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The project was due to up-and-running by mid to late 2020, but Main Roads Director of metropolitan operations Peter Sewell says the expert who was due to come to Western Australia to commission & test the project and train Main Roads staff can no longer travel within the time frame.
Mr Sewell told Gareth Parker on Mornings Main Roads was considering opening the lanes to traffic and commissioning the technology at a later date.
