It ain’t easy being cheesy under potential new health star rating guidelines
Health Minister will meet on Friday to discuss changes to the national Health Star Ratings guidelines and Australian cheesemakers are concerned with how their products could end up fairing.
One of the decisions will be whether to go ahead with the controversial Calculator 2 regime which would see more than half of everyday household cheese products rate less than three stars, with some scoring as low as one star.
The regime would mean some cheese products would be given a lower score than a box of Cheddar Shapes would have a higher rating at 1.5 stars.
Australian Dairy Products Federation executive director and dietitian Janine Waller told Gareth Parker she’s concerned Australians would start thinking cheese is an unhealthy choice for their diet.
