Julie Bishop resigns

Julie Bishop has declared the Federal Government will win the upcoming election, as she announced her retirement from politics.

The former Foreign Affairs Minister served as deputy Liberal leader for 11 years, but moved to the backbench after a failed tilt at the leadership last August.

Ms Bishop says she’s decided not to re-contest her WA seat of Curtin, but has no doubt she leaves behind a winning team.

WAToday political reporter Nathan Hondros says the tussling will now begin for the plum seat of Curtin with names already being thrown around.
