The wreck of Captain Cook’s HMS Endeavour is thought to be found of the east coast of the US.

The wreckage was found near Rhode Island with one researcher searching the area for more than a decade.

Kevin Sumption is the director of the Australian Maritime Museum and says the discovery is “promising” but they still need to test some timber.

“We’re going to take a couple of samples and using forensic science to very carefully work out where that timber was grown,” Mr Sumption told 6PR Breakfast.

Steve and Baz thought it was quite the coincidence that the place of the discovery is already a place dear to our hearts with the location near the Rhode Island Yacht Club where we stole the Americas Cup.
