Move to include ‘Australia Day’ in Wanneroo Festival knocked back

City of Wanneroo Council has knocked back a motion to recognise Australia Day on promotional material for a festival to be held on January 26.

Last night’s motion was voted against during last night’s council meeting. Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group had determined the Wanneroo Festival should not be about the national holiday, in order to be more inclusive.

Councillor Linda Aitken put forward the defeated motion — she says it could potentially be put back on the agenda, ahead of Australia Day 20-21.
