Mythbusted: grandparents can reinforce positive diet messages for kids

A Cancer Council WA study has found grandparents play a significant role in shaping a child’s diet.

Over 80 percent of grandparents feed children several snacks and meals each week – as parents increasingly rely on them for childcare.

Cancer Council WA Obesity Prevention Manager Kelly Kennington told Gareth Parker on Mornings the study has found grandparents who provided a healthy food environment – and they themselves ate more fruit and veg – had grandchildren who ate healthier food options and less junk snacks and sugary drinks.
