NAPLAN a “dead duck”
Despite increasing investment in education the latest NAPLAN data shows student results have barely changed since the testing began 10 years ago.
Over that time there have been improvements in grammar, spelling, and reading results for students in years 3 and 5 but results from students in years 7 and 9 remain flat.
Education expert and former school principal Adam Voigt told Oly Peterson that he was un-surprised by the results.
“We’ve been pouring money into this dead duck that’s NAPLAN for many many years now.
“If we’d invested $20 billion in any other aspect of education and had such an appalling return on it, we’d get rid of it.
“We need to leave this in our distant past and find a better way to assess the way our students are moving forward.”
