“Penalties Should Remain”: John Buchanan
An independent review into Cricket Australia was handed down today. After the ball tampering scandal in South Africa, the Board voluntarily commissioned the review into the organisation.
Oliver Peterson spoke with former Australian cricket coach John Buchanan about the findings and recommendations, which include a 1 strike policy for sledging and naming and shaming of offenders.
“That incident (ball tampering) wasn’t just one of those things that happens. It was as a result of a whole range of things.
“This is what the ethical review has started to point out.
“The issues don’t just reside with the players group… they reside with all parties that are involved with Cricket Australia.”
The report stated, “Australian cricket has lost its balance … and has stumbled badly. The reputation of the game of cricket, as played by men, has been tainted. Women’s cricket remains unaffected.”
