Perth is going to become a more compact city

Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) WA CEO, Allison Hailes spoke with Chris about the inevitability of infill.

“We’re anticipating our population to grow to 3.5 million people by 2050, so that means we’ve got about 1.4 million more people we’re going to need to house in the next 30 years,” Ms Hailes said.

“That means delivering about an extra 800,000 homes,” she said.

“Perth is going through a transformation…this transformation that we’re just starting to experience creates tension in the community about where the density should go…that’s were we’re at in South Perth.”
