Police Commissioner concedes there is a case to shut down protest

WA Police won’t be attempting to shut down Saturday’s Black Lives Matter rally but are advising people not to go due to current health risks.

Protest organisers have confirmed the rally will go ahead despite a Victorian protester testing positive to COVID-19 after attending last week’s rally.

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson told Gareth Parker on Mornings they are working towards a peaceful protest.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Dawson says he expects a WA football hub will be put into place by next month.

Discussion’s between the AFL and state Government have resumed in hope the Dockers and Eagles will be able to return home after being based on the Gold Coast.

He says while games might be played he doesn’t expect fans to be able to attend.
