Police counter-protest plan biggest ‘since CHOGM’

Police admit they’re worried over further action from a climate change protest group planned for Perth this week.

Members of the group held a small protest outside the Duxton Hotel last week — where the nation’s energy ministers were meeting.

Protesters now have their sights on the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre – where the Resources and Technology Showcase will be held from tomorrow – with a march in the CBD also likely.

Police Commander Tony Flack told Gareth Parker the group won’t speak to them, making it difficult to facilitate their right to protest. He says tomorrow will be the biggest security operation in Perth since CHOGM.
