Road users urged to dob in illegal banners

We’re being urged to report protest banners put up on freeway overpasses.

A small group of men unfurled a banner over the Mitchell Freeway southbound this morning.

Director of Metropolitan Operations Peter Sewell says they’re illegal — regardless of the message.

“Some of them are just simple happy birthday ones but we don’t like to have them on there so we try to get rid of them as quickly as possible,” he told Gareth Parker.

“Any distraction causes an incident, causes congestion in peak hour and its chaos for kilometres behind so we try to get rid of them quickly.”

They can be reported to Main Roads directly on 138 138.
