The RSPCA says it doesn’t have the powers to enter an abattoir in order to check on the welfare of retired racehorses and is calling for better regulations.

An ABC investigation last week revealed the brutal treatment of horses at an abattoir in Queensland. Racing and Wagering WA couldn’t guarantee the state’s horses hadn’t been sent to that facility.

WA President Lynne Bradshaw told Gareth Parker abattoirs aren’t properly regulated.
