Successful Perth small business under threat

Simon Beaumont

A successful Perth small business, the Picabar, is under threat.

The owners of Picabar in the Perth Cultural Center opened the bar in Jan 2012 after the space had been closed for 12 years.

The bar sublease from PICA and PICA lease the building from the Government with the sublease including a right to a ten-year term when PICA get a new lease.

Last Thursday the Picabar received a letter saying PICA would be getting a new lease but didn’t include the bar space, that the Perth Theatre Trust would take over the lease and that the Picabar had three weeks to get out.

The owners of the Picabar Brian Buckley & Melissa Bowen joined Gareth Parker in the studio.
