Talking Books with Boffins
Boffins Books’ Bill Liddelow dissects which books have been selling since the end of the festive season. Bill touches on the novel Unreliable Memoirs by Clive James – a celebration of life in all its unpredictable glory.
There is also Bill’s favourite books at the moment. Marley by Jon Clinch is on the list. Marley revisits and illuminates one of Charles Dickens’s most cherished works to spellbinding effect.
Mallee Country by Richard Broome also comes highly recommended. Described as a story of how a landscape once derided by settlers as a ‘howling wilderness’ covered in ‘dismal scrub’ became home to citizens who delighted in mallee fauna and flora, and fought to conserve it for future generations.
And finally it is Dresden by Sinclair McKay, which has been touted as the ‘most looking forward to read book’ by Bill. Explore if the attack on Dresden in 1945 was a legitimate military target or a last act of atavistic mass murder in a war already won?
