The long road from Walkabout to Perth

Simon Beaumont

As thousands of kids head back to the classroom for the start of the new year, Mornings with Gareth Parker touched base with a student who travels from one of central Australia’s most remote communities to attend school in Perth.

Young Noongar/Arrernte man, Jack Orr, attends Wesley College as part of the MADALAH scholarship program, and told Mornings of the huge contrasts between his two homes.

Gareth was also joined in the studio by Manager of Indigenous Education and Partnerships at MADALAH, Angela Murphy, who shared some of the unique challenges they face in transitioning Indigenous students from remote areas of Australia, for schooling in Perth.
