‘The Water Corp has too much money and don’t know what to do with it’

The Mayor of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has expressed his disappointment at plans to remove the iconic Golden Pipeline.

Completed in 1903, borne from engineer C.Y. O’Connor – the Perth to Goldfields pipeline is credited with opening up towns along its length.

The Water Corporation is now looking at removing it.

Kalgoorlie Mayor John Bowler has told Gareth Parker on Mornings – he wasn’t consulted and he’s disappointed with the decision.

“Sure everything has an end-of-life at some stage, but the actual steel pipeline is holding together, they’ve painted it and on the inside, they actually line the inside of the steel now with a layer of concrete and that holds that together so I don’t know why they say it has to go.”
