When asbestos becomes dangerous

On Perth Tonight Chris Ilsley spoke to Dr Mike Lindsay, Managing Scientist of Environmental Health at the Department of Health about the aging asbestos in WA residential properties.

“As the asbestos stock across WA starts to age and some of the cement matrix starts to break down there’s evidence that small numbers of fibres can be released,” Dr Mike Lindsay said.

“I guess that’s something we as a community… and the State Government need to think about… into the future as asbestos roofs and fences and cladding does start to get older it will become an increasing risk.”
