The Police Commissioner has been quizzed on the sluggish rate at which overseas recruits are joining the force.

A parliamentary estimates committee has heard that from more than 17-hundred international applications, just 115 officers have so far graduated.

Police Commissioner Col Blanch told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the hearing there are several factors that slow down the process, as well as significant cultural factors affecting uptake.

I think what we are seeing and we see it in some of our exit interviews, that the work life balance and the working from home benefits now offered post-covid in many industries is outweighing the benefit of joining police for civic duty reasons,” he said.
