The push for tougher knife laws in WA has the support of the state’s police union.

Multiple jurisdictions are now looking at implementing Jack’s Law – legislation created in Queensland which allows police to use metal detecting wands in party precincts and on public transport.

Union President Paul Gale says it would be an important extension of current stop and search policies.

“We should be consistent around the country; if Queensland are prepared to do that, and our Attorney-General and Police Minister are considering it, then we’ll do what we need to do,” Mr Gale said.
