Mandurah BMX Club has had to cancel their world championship-level events while needed upgrades to their track are held up in a circuitous local council battle.

The club itself has produced multiple elite-level riders who regularly attend world championships, but since their starting gate broke earlier in the year they’ve found themselves having to work around Mandurah City Council’s attempts to control the repairs.

“The councilors said they want a structural engineer to come out and repair something that’s not even structural,” club member Stewart Sutherland told Karl and Gena onĀ 6PR Breakfast.

“We’re not even asking the council for the money; it’ll be done by the club but the council turned around and said, ‘No, you’re not doing it.'”
