DAY 4: A three-hour outdoor broadcast in Australia’s hottest town usually drives one to drink, but Millsy’s stint outside the Ironclad Hotel in Marble Bar bizarrely sent him indoors for show four on his Long Way to the Top tour up north.

For the first time on the road, Steve let us inside ‘Caravana del Mills’, the luxurious Jayco Outback Journey caravan he already has a love-hate relationship with, broadcasting Millsy at Midday live from the safe and shady confines of his corner sofa at Port Hedland’s Cemetery Beach Park, overlooking the world’s largest bulk export port.

It must’ve felt a breeze inside after the searing barren heat of Marble Bay, helped by a view of the Port Hedland coastline to die for.

He spoke to Charles Kretzmann, who’s the GM of engineering and infrastructure at the Pilbara Ports Authority about its $187 million Spoilbank Marina development.

Listeners also heard from Kiara Ellis, author of FIFO and Me, a children’s book collections that delves into the impact of FIFO workers, particularly dads, in the family.

He also caught up with Patrik Malberg, who leads BHP’s communities team to talk about the massive presence and influence the iron ore company has had across the Pilbara region.

“We basically dig iron ore out of the ground, we rail it to Port Hedland and we ship it out to various customers, including our biggest customer which is China,” he said

Admirably aided by his lovely wife Tricia capturing the action behind the scenes, Millsy is on a radio road trip adventure, broadcasting live from some the state’s most remote and renowned towns and destinations.

Millsy is on air daily from 12pm to 3pm, capturing the qualities of each town and the people that make them tick, with his journey detailed in his Long Way to the Top tour blog, which we’ll update after each broadcast.

We’ve also got him sending great BTS footage you can see on our socials. What could go wrong? Well, plenty it seems.

Friday’s broadcast is from the Middle of Nowhere, which doesn’t bode well for Steve, so follow our socials to keep track with more exclusive footage from the road, and tune in from 12pm-3pm to listen to Millsy at Midday.
